The massive Tohoku-Kanto Earthquake-Tsunami disaster struck on Mach 11, 2011. The disaster survivors and all other Japanese are now trying to recover from the devastation, and return to normal. In this regard, we have been wondering how we can support such a cause and cheer ourselves up at the same time. 'Oh! Bento Labo' in Japan launched the 1000 Happy Bento Project. eMeetYou.com invited them our sushi&bento! community and would like to ask our members to participate in this charitable project. It is very simple. Just upload your bento (lunch box) photo with warm message in the 1000 Happy Bento Project group. You may upload as many different kinds of bento photos as you wish, too. Our goal is collect 1000 bento photos and messages by March 11, 2012.
In Japan, there has long been a custom called 'Kagezen' - a shadow meal setting is prepared for an absent member of a family, or a friend, who is on a trip or has gone to war, to pray for his or her safe journey and return. Although the custom is now fading out due to progress in transportation and communication, we would like to follow the traditional custom Kagezen by using Bento. The concept is to pray for the safety of the survivors, and for the rehabilitation of the affected areas, as well as to raise the spirit of everyone. An ancient Japanese proverb said that one thousand origami cranes 'Senba Zuru (Tsuru)' will grant a wish and recovery from illness or injury of your friends and loved ones. So, our goal is 1000 Bento! Please join the group and upload your bento photos to the existing albums or create your own album. We look forward to your participation!
